How To Start

The Pathway Forward Framework is designed to help organizations within the clean energy industry implement effective diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) actions.

Let’s get started. Your organization can adopt the Pathway Forward Framework in four simple steps:

Take the Pledge

The Pathway Forward Adoption Pledge is a commitment to action and a willingness to put forth effort towards creating the inclusive prosperity and vibrant social systems we seek in the clean energy industry.

Complete the Self-Assessment

After you have reviewed and completed the pledge, it is time to assemble your team to download and complete the organizational self-assessment. This assessment is an internal, private resource designed to help your organization understand your current growth stage much like a “you are here” on a map. Your team will assess progress made to date, identify priorities for the next year, and create action steps to make progress. The self-assessment will populate a graphic charting your organization’s DEI growth stage and action plan that you can share internally with key stakeholders.

Identify 1-3 Priority Areas and Develop an Action Plan

In order to complete the Organizational Self-Assessment, you will be prompted to identify 1-3 specific areas to take action. Be sure to visit the DEI Pathway Forward Framework Guide and the Resource Library to find suggestions, examples and ideas. Action Plans are best developed by the team or individual who completed the Self-Assessment Survey from your organization, together with senior leadership. It may also be beneficial to bring in additional stakeholders (for example, your Board of Directors) to collaboratively identify your organization’s priorities for DEI advancement.

Submit the Completion Survey

Once you have completed the organizational self-assessment and action plan, please complete a brief Self-Assessment Completion Survey, which will be submitted to Renewables Forward and Industry Partners SEIA, ACP, NHA, CEBA, and ACORE. Your organization’s completion survey helps Renewables Forward track participating companies who have chosen to adopt the DEI Pathway Forward. Your company’s individual answers remain private and confidential. Collectively, the completion surveys provide insight into broader industry trends regarding DEI goals and progress.

Once you have submitted your completion survey, you will receive the Pathway Forward Member badge that you can use to demonstrate your organization’s commitment on the website or in recruiting materials.

Complete Annual Survey

Each year, Renewables Forward and Industry Partners will conduct a survey to measure the industry’s progress towards advancing DEI in clean energy. Please make a note that an annual survey is forthcoming and be sure to respond to the survey when you receive it. Only collective data will be shared. No individual company results will be shared publicly.
